Humility

“Do tell me who taught you to build your nest,” entreated the thistle, half expecting to give offence, yet wishing to ask the question. But no offence was taken, and the rook, after an instant of grave consideration, replied, “Why, you see, I understand it all, for I am what is called a genius.”

“I daresay your cleverness came to you just as your feathers and wings did?” said the thistle.

“Precisely,” answered the rook.

“And I daresay Whoever gave you your feathers and your wings gave you also your cleverness?”

But the rook suddenly seemed to remember that he had not yet breakfasted, and hurried off with great speed, leaving the conversation unfinished.
