Piano Teacher Directory

As a helpful resource to parents, here is a directory of Curwen Inspired Piano Teachers that I have interacted with from around the world. I have not ‘vetted’ each of these teacher’s methods, but each has expressed a desire to teach their students using Mrs. Curwen’s method and/or books. If you are looking for a teacher, hopefully there is one in your area!

“I love exploring the older methods of teaching and find a lot of value and good advise in them.  I stumbled upon the Curwen method while reading one of Tobias Matthay’s books on technique in which he recommends Ms. Curwen’s book. To be honest, I have not gotten through a lot of it yet but agree with her philosophy of developing the student’s musical senses first (ear, rhythm, exploration of the instrument).”

“I enjoy the feast of learning – not just how to read music but to understand it!”

“The Curwen Method has given my lessons aim and purpose. I don’t waste time with my students, and I always know exactly what to do next.  Mrs. Curwen’s map of what comes next and how to teach it has proven its immense value time and time again for me.

Studying her method has brought new life and energy to my teaching. Her method is so well rounded and has given me a new found confidence for purpose and intention as I desire to open any gateway or path in a child’s mind to find the beauty in music intended be found by God our Creator.”

“I like this quote because I think that the Curwen method provides a rich, varied, and flavorful approach to teaching and learning about piano and music: “Mrs. Curwen’s Child Pianist [See Appendix A] method is worked out, with minute care, upon the same lines; that is, the child’s knowledge of the theory of music and his ear training keep pace with his power of execution, and seem to do away with the deadly dreariness of ‘practising.’”
