Thank you for those who attended and asked questions at our recent sessions.  This session was recorded on July 11, 2021. Due to privacy of the participants, I am posting Audio Only.

Questions and Topics:

3:00 Minutes
Do you teach students in your home? How many students do I teach? What are their age ranges? Do you homeschool your children?
5:30
I have very little piano experience.  Will I be able to teach my own children piano using this method? Or will I be essentially be learning with/alongside them?
7:15
I have two young children and want to use this method.  But I am overwhelmed with the process.  What should I do?
9:45
What books do I need to order to get started?
12:15
What do you recommend for moms who want to teach their kids?  Do they need to work ahead of their student?
13:40
So just start with the Preliminary Course Videos and just do 5 minutes at a time? What age should I start with these piano lessons?
16:00
I have seen the book has a lot of ear training in the book. Knowing they have half hour lessons each week with a traditional piano teacher, should supplement with the Preliminary Lessons alongside/outside of their weekly piano lessons?
20:40
We started 1st Step, but are on break right now. There are a lot of pieces in the 4 beginning books, some of which the student finds easy and some are difficult. How do you think through as a teacher adjusting/discerning how to layout which ones each student will do? What is the first book Kelli sends home with her students?
27:00
What is the difference between the Kinross versus Swinstead editions? Can my children share the same piano books?
29:00
Is the 1st Step “1st Lesson” actually done in a single lesson? When you go back and review things that have already been covered? How do you know when the child has ‘mastered’ a step before moving on?
33:00
When do duets start?  Is that 1st Step?
35:00
In the guide, in the appendix it talks about teaching in groups. With my four school aged children, I’m teaching the older two together and the younger two. Is that OK or should I be teaching them all individually?
39:35
I am overwhelmed because I don’t have any piano background or music reading ability. I only sing by ear. I need to dig in and be brave.
41:00
How do I teach my kids technique because I can’t play piano.
42:50
On your website, you have books listed for 1st Step. You mentioned a book by Kabalevsky that looked really fun. When would I start using that?

Additional questions centered around which supplemental music I use for my students. I reference many of these books in a post here.

47:10
I have a friend who is a good piano player am curious what she thinks.  How would you ‘pitch’ this to her? What would you tell her the best thing is about her method?
50:55
Would I considering doing a short course or Webinar to encourage parents with limited music background?
52:50
What does Curwen say the value or purpose of the duets is?
54:40
Would you consider putting a place on the website specifically addressing questions you have answered via emails?
