Student Lessons

These video lessons are student focused.  They are designed for your child to watch with your active participation alongside them.  Before a student begins any of these lessons, you, the parent, will want to prepare by reading the instructions and reviewing the previous lesson’s homework with your child before watching the video lesson.

My hope is for these to be useful for families even when the parent does not have any background in piano. Also, consider reading the articles on the For Parents section of this site before starting a student.

This area provides quick access to each individual student lesson. There are no books required for the Preliminary Lessons.

Preliminary Lessons

All of the Preliminary Lesson videos are available.  For a 7 or 8 year old child, you can expect these lessons to take one to two terms to master the material.  Older children with musical training may go much faster. See the scope and sequence of the preliminary lessons here.

1st Step Lessons

There is a total of four parts to Step 1. Once completed, this will be about one semester’s worth of lessons for students who have completed the Preliminary Lessons. Click the images below to access the first two sets of videos covering 1st Step, Part 1 and Part 2 (in progress).

If you are finished with all available videos at this time, I am not planning on creating additional videos. If you have some piano ability yourself as teacher, consider using Mrs. Curwen’s Method book and the Piano Teacher section of this site to teach students yourself.

I love to hear from parents and teachers, so if you ever have any questions as you use the videos or teach the lessons yourself, feel free to contact me with any questions.
