Preliminary Lesson 4d

Preparation

What to know prior to watching the student video:

Now that your student understands how the G clef and F clef combine into the Grand Staff, we will continue to teach specific locations of notes on the staff. Your student’s ability to quickly recognize the note on the staff, say its name, and find its home on the piano is foundational to successfully learning to play the piano without frustration. Reviewing this with your student every day will make the transition to reading music very simple.

Also, we will introduce the 4 pulse note. If your child is still struggling to identify 1, 2, and 3 pulse notes, remember to practice using a metronome, playing these different notes of length and allowing the child to notate them as you play them. You can also use the previous lessons to review these if you are not yet comfortable doing it yourself.

Lesson 4d Homework

    1. Draw an 11 lined staff. Draw the G clef and the F clef. Label high F, G, E, middle C, A, F and low G.
    2. Draw some four pulse measures with different combinations of notes. Play those rhythms.
    3. Continue playing The Farmhouse song.
