Preliminary Lesson 3c

Preparation

What to know prior to watching the student video:

This will be our final review of the names of the sounds on the piano. If you know that your child can unhesitatingly name the sounds going up and down in thirds, feel free to skip that part of the lesson. Start back up at intervals.

After Lesson 3c:

In the next lesson, we start to learn the staff! This is really a pivotal point in learning music notation. Learning the names of the sounds and the intervals of a second and third are fundamental to understanding the way the staff works. Understanding the staff gives children the ability to read music.

If your child is still struggling to name the sounds on the piano, I encourage you slow down and repeat some of the lessons to really lay a good foundation.

Lesson 3c Homework

  1. Continue naming the sounds going up by step, down by step, up in thirds, and down in thirds.
  2. Using a metronome, sing one pulse, two pulse, three pulse, and four pulse sounds.
