When I Survey the Wondrous Cross – arranged for a Child’s Hands

When I Survey the Wondrous Cross - Simplified for children

One of the greatest blessings of being a musician is when you’re given the opportunity to be a part of something that’s greater than anything you can do by yourself. Playing piano while others sing alongside others can be so delightful.

Once your child can play this hymn rather fluently, I encourage you to sit around the piano and sing with them. Think of the satisfaction! They are learning to become an instrument to allow others to sing.

This arrangement is written for a fairly early beginner pianist. It falls within a five finger span for both hands. There is no crossing over and the hands don’t need to shift positions while playing.

Hopefully this arrangement can be a blessing for your child and your family through this season of Lent.

I included the texts of verse one on the PDF. I feared the rest of the verses could overwhelm the appearance of the page for a child. Use texts from online or your own hymnal to sing the entire story of this hymn.
